Good money being thrown after bad, says Scottish ADHD Coalition

“Good money being thrown after bad”, says the Scottish ADHD Coalition.

The Scottish ADHD Coalition welcomes the recent announcement by the Scottish Government of an increase in funding for NHS services involved in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of neurodevelopmental conditions.

However, we remain highly sceptical that this will be sufficient to address a decade of failure and the backlog of cases that have precipitated the current crisis, nor are we convinced that the injection of funding alone will lead to the cultural and strategic changes that will future-proof such investment.

We have concerns that this is mainly throwing money for political gain. The Coalition seeks authentic leadership to steer the country through the current crisis in mental health services.

Until such a time that political and professional silos are broken-down, for example involving patients and clinicians being involved as well as clinical managers, we fear that good money may well be being thrown after bad.
