Learn more about ADHD
There are many online resources to help develop an understanding of ADHD but they can be of variable quality and pitched at different levels, so caution is advised. The following are reputable resources, although we don’t update this page too often.
NHS
- NHS Inform (from NHS Scotland)
- Self Help Resource Pack by NHS Lothian (with input from Scottish adults)
- Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland
Social Media
There are plenty of YouTube, podcasts, TikTok and Instagram channels. They are useful, but equally we advise caution as some individuals and organisations make claims which have no substantiated data behind them, and can even be harmful. We find How to ADHD a good starting point.
Video
ADHD Primer (28 minute video)
Dr Thomas Brown, a Yale-based ADHD expert, gives an overview of what ADHD is and how it affects both children and adults.
Books
These days there are many books about ADHD. The following is a starter list, only occasionally updated. You will want one in the style, tone and level of presumed knowledge that suits you. Both Amazon and Good Reads offer you online reviews to help you navigate this. Sometimes ADHDers find audio books (e.g. Audible) particularly helpful.
- ADHD: Rapped Up! (for kids) by Jamie ‘Mr G’ Gilbert
- ADHD 2.0 by Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey
- ADHD Unpacked by Alex Conner and James Brown

- Dirty Laundry: Why Adults with ADHD Are So Ashamed and What We Can Do to Help by Richard Pink and Roxanne Emery
